Varsity Baseball Prospects for 1921
With four "A" men of last year's squad returning to school
and with a wealth of new material to pick from, Coach Devlin
will not find the problem of building up a Varsity baseball nine
so difficult as it has been in the last few years.
The candidates are now hard at work, each man striving to
outdo the other in winning a position. The line-up of the
Varsity is unknown at the present time but whatever it may be,
from the present indications, it is bound to develop into a fast,
snappy, and hard-hitting team.
Father Barry, manager of the team, is now busy scheduling
games with some of the fastest nines in the surrounding states.
The feature of the 1921 season is the proposed four-day trip to
the north. On this jaunt the Varsity will meet Columbia College, Dubuque University, St. Marys, Winona, and Campion
College at Prairie Du Chien. By registering wins over these
teams, the Blue and White will practically cinch the Mid-
West Catholic Conference Championship.
The Varsity baseball season of 1920 was one blazing path of
glory and with the main objective of this year's team to outdo
the records of their predecessors, a Championship nine is inevitable. Besides the games mentioned above, the Varsity also
have games scheduled with Des Moines University, Simpson
College, Knox, and Monmouth. Besides these, there is a possibility of games with Augustana.
