William and Vashti Team. Lew's work was sensational, holding the mound late
into the night, till finally a Vashtian succeeded in executing a moonlight drive to
center, scoring the deciding run in a 4-3 game.
The Aledo Aggregation called us back for the Decoration Day game, which
proved to be almost a game and a half, with the fraction being at the end of the
twelfth 9/8, with the Illinoisans on the top of the dividing line. The season
closed with the Decoration Day exhibition, and although it proved not rich in
victories was nevertheless, a successful one. We miss many whom graduation
has removed from Athletics at St. Ambrose. Captain Hynes was a valuable man
and he starred repeatedly in the Vashti games. "Bill" is batting for a high average in a Law Class and we wish him many hits. We understand "Shanks" Lew
is putting 'em over in the Automobile business. Here is for a frequent repetition
of "long drives." Frank Murphy, Columbus Lagomarcino, and "Si" Morgan are
gone but not forgotten. We'll meet you at the Alumni game.
The prospects for a winning team this year are encouraging. Despite the fact
that only two regulars and two substitutes are remaining from the team last
year, yet the amount of promising material was never greater and we wager that
St. Ambrose will have a fast team in the field this season.
