THE literary organizations at the college have completed a very successful
year. Three societies were formed
at the beginning of the term and
weekly meetings were held. Interesting programs, consisting of declamations,
dialogues and discussions of current topics,
were given.
The purpose of these societies is to teach
the student the rudiments of narration in plain,
vigorous English, and to enable him to overcome that nervousness to which so many young
speakers are subject when addressing an audience.
It is from the ranks of these societies that
speakers for the annual Junior and Senior elocution contests are chosen. These contests
arouse much interest among the students and
friends of the institution, and form the climax
of the year in literary work.
