In Memory of Rev. Bernard Kamerick
The St. Ambrose College community is saddened with the passing of Reverend Bernard M. Kamerick. He was the second faculty
member to die this year (see page 19 for the formal notes on the
death of Rev. J. M. Shipman).
Father Kamerick was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on Sept. 15,1908.
His early education was completed at Sacred Heart Grade School
and Ottumwa High School. He graduated from St. Ambrose College in 1930 with a B.A. in Philosophy. He completed theological
studies at St. Paul Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota.
Bernard Kamerick was ordained May 10,1934 at Sacred Heart
Cathedral in Davenport. In 1941, he was appointed associate
pastor at St. Pauls, Davenport and assigned as the dean of men
at the College. He remained at St. Ambrose as professor of religion until 1968. Formerly the pastor at St. Peter's church, Buffalo
he was serving as pastor of St. Patrick's of Brooklyn, Iowa at his
demise. Continuing to serve even after death, Father Kamerick
had willed his body to the Creighton Medical School, Omaha, Neb.
