Description

CLOSING
For most students, the mention of the Yearbook brings to
mind a collection of pictures and writings expressing the
atmosphere of a year of schooling. But to a few of us,
the image a yearbook brings to mind is one of hours of
confusion, despair, laughter and a few feelings of success.
There never was known for those concerned with Volume
33 a time when they could say that they had nothing to do.
In fact, it seemed, as they looked up out of the confusion,
like a useless effort to continue. All of us realized that
someone had to do this job and that the end, one way
or another, couldn't be too far away.
Because of the smallness of the staff, positions became
secondary to the work that had to be done. This can be
seen in the case of the faculty advisor, Mr. John Schmits,
especially. Without him, the book would never have been.
Mr. Schmits worked so strongly and continuously that at
times it seemed as if he was the Yearbook Staff and we
were spectators.
There were others, too, who by their efforts and cooperation helped mightily in the completion of this book.
Thanks to Mr. Jay Kane for his files and information,- Miss
Monholland and her staff for class lists; Mrs. Kay Spencer
for Dorm and Student data,- the librarians and school historians,- the Coaches for help in their respective sports,-
John Berry for giving up his lunch hours to sort pictures,-
Bill Graf for his aid; Mike Ruffus for making almost 200
phone calls in one evening,- the Times-Democrat and Catholic Messenger for photos and story material; the Ambrosian
News for much more of the same,- the American Yearbook
Co. for publishing the '67 OAKS and all the others who
helped in many ways toward this completion.
My sincerest thanks of course goes out to Editors and associates, Bob Ditmon and Jim Martin.
Through these combined efforts of the St. Ambrose community, some part of the essence of 1967 has been reflected
upon, written, rewritten and published.
